2023: Kwara Fulani Community declares support for Atiku, PDP Candidates

Members of the Fulani community in Kwara state said over the weekend that they back all of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) candidates running for elective offices ahead of the Saturday, February 25th, 2023 general elections.

Alhaji Usman Sule Jowuro-Lamba, a well-known member of the community, led the proclamation that was made at the home of former Senate President Bukola Saraki.

He gathered around 200 Fulani representatives from the state’s 16 extant Local Government Areas (LGAs) to the location of the historic event.

According to Jowuro-Lamba, the Kwaran-based Fulanis’ political ventures began some 50 years ago when their ancestors began courting the late political titan of the state’s politics, Olusola Saraki.

“we want to continue in this way by declaring our supports in Kwara state for Alhaji Atiku Abubakar as the President of Nigeria and all the PDP candidates seeking for elective posts in this year elections. We enjoyed all the dividends of democracy under Saraki. But today, the reversal is the case. We will vote from the hierarchy of presidency to that of the councilor for all the PDP candidates.” he added.

Two of the Fulani leader’s lieutenants, Alhaji Aliyu Mohammed Oro Seriki Fulani from Bacita, Moro LGA of the state, and Aduragba Suleiman, head of the Fulani in Ajase-Ipo, provided excellent assistance.

Dr. Alli Ahmad, a former speaker of the state House of Assembly, welcomed the Fulanis on behalf of Saraki and thanked them for supporting all of the PDP’s candidates, as well as promising them a fair sharing of democratic benefits if they helped him win the election.
