On 28th of December, 2022 the Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces, Federal Republic of Nigeria, President Muhammad Buhari through his twitter handle made public his directive to the security agencies on their conduct towards the forthcoming election. The tweet reads thus:

“I have made it very clear to the security agencies that they have a responsibility to remain apolitical at all times. Under no circumstances should they get involved in anything that could compromise the democratic process, or bring disrepute to their institutions and to Nigeria.”

Barely 2 weeks after this directive from our president, the Kwara state police command seems to have been issued a contrary directive, this time by the Despotic Grand Commander of Otoge Forces (DGCOF), Gov. Abdulrahman Abdulrazaq who has reportedly given a nod for the police command to intimidate, threaten and suppress opposition voices in Kwara state.

This tyrannical, authoritarian and undemocratic directive from the Despotic Grand Commander of Otoge Forces (DGCOF) is allegedly what led to the arrest of top leaders in the transport union particularly the Okada riders in Kwara state who publicly embraced the Osuwa movement much to the dismay of the governor who continues to act in an undemocratic manner forgetting that the most important factor in every democracy is the people. Gov. Abdulrahman must be taught that he can’t intimidate his way back to office.

Gov. Abdulrahman Abdulrazaq was elected as governor in 2019 because the previous administration respected the will of the people and gave everyone a level playing ground to exercise their democratic rights. This is why the people are calling for a return of PDP today away from the despotism ushered in by Abdulrazaq and the Niger Delta style of politicking he seeks to entrench in our state of Harmony.

This is not an attack against the Kwara state police command but an appeal for them to comply with the directive of President Muhammad Buhari and jettison the alleged directive from the Despotic Grand Commander of Otoge Forces (DGCOF), Gov. Abdulrahman Abdulrazaq. The writing on the wall portends an imminent defeat for Abdulrahman and posterity will remember those who took the side of the people by ensuring everyone is given an opportunity to exercise his/her democratic rights without fear or intimidation, the Kwara state police command must take heed and remain apolitical.
God bless the Nigeria Police Force.
