Kwara 2023: Stop inducing unknown people to blackmail opposition – Group warns Gov Abdulrazaq

A Pro-democracy group, the Kwara Advancement Initiative (KAI) has cautioned Governor Abdulrahman Abdulrazaq and the All Progressives Congress (APC) against politics of bitterness and division.

The group also lampooned the government for inducing some vulnerable members of the National Union of Road Transport Workers (NURTW) with cash to blackmail the opposition.

In a statement signed by the Head, Democratic Mobilization and Monitoring Desk of KAI, Hajia Adeola Bashiru, and released in Ilorin, the group described the new move by the governor to create divisions among groups and set factions against each other as dangerous, childish, reprehensible and malicious.

The statement read, “We wonder why a State government will go as far as financially inducing some unscrupulous members of the Transport Union to cause division in the union, a move which is ordinarily known for its volatility, with the aim of inciciting the various factions to blackmail members of the opposition.

“Influential groups and prominent individuals in the state as well as ordinary citizens have the right to support any political party or candidate and the exercise of this right should not elicit bitterness or any unnecessary show of animosity.

“The recent video being circulated by supporters of Governor Abdulrazaq, is obviously a fabrication and therefore not only needless, but capable of heating up the polity. It should be condemned by all reasonable individual as it could trigger violence among the Transport unions.

“Staged-managed ploys like this are nothing but reactions by politicians and political parties that are jittery and of facing defeat at the polls.

“It is shameful that a party that has taken Nigeria backward by 50 years, both at the centre and the state level, yet with no modicum of dignity, still deceives itself that it is capable of gaining some insignificant endorsement”, KAI stated.

The group urged Governor Abdulrazaq to redeem his battered image within the remaining five months of the tenure of his administration and stop engaging in dirty politics.

“One may be tempted to ask Governor Abdulrazaq and his cohorts if they have seen the video of leaders of the commercial motorcycle riders, disowning those in their purported endorsement and lamenting the hardship they’ve been subjected to by this government and screaming for the PDP to come to their rescue.

“The present APC government need to stop living in illusion and face reality. Kwarans can no longer be deceived”, the group stated.
