The University of Ilorin Teaching Hospital (UITH) management has stated that it is determined to move forward with the investigation and prosecution of the three individuals who are accused of assaulting a hospital doctor over the death of one Alhaji Soliu, a butcher who reportedly passed away in the hospital last Tuesday.
This information is included in a statement made by Mrs. Elizabeth Ajiboye, Head of the Corporate Affairs Unit, on behalf of the UITH Management over the holiday.
According to the statement, the hospital would carry out its investigation and pursue legal action against the three reportedly responsible for the doctor’s alleged attack.
When asked why the hospital ordered the release of the body of one Alhaji Solihu, whose three relatives were accused of assaulting a hospital doctor, Ajiboye stated, “The Management has magnanimously decided to release the corpse to the relatives for burial after thoroughly reviewing the situation.
“However, further investigations and possible prosecution of the arrested persons linked with the doctor’s assault would continue to its logical end.”
“Meanwhile the Association of Resident Doctors, UITH, Ilorin started a five-day total strike as a result of the assault of their member.
“the UITH appreciates the peaceful resolution of the problem but the Management frowns at avoidable frictions between relatives and healthcare givers and would do all that is necessary including legal redress to solve the problem.” Ajiboye said.
Recall that Soliu was transported to the hospital’s Accident and Emergency Ward in the early hours of Tuesday last week, the three relatives of the dead allegedly assaulted a doctor over what they believed was the incompetence of some medical staff, which resulted in Soliu’s death.
