The quest for the People’s Democratic Party, PDP to regain political power in Kwara State gained traction on Wednesday as the Saraki Women Movement in Offa local government area of the State began awareness campaign on the ongoing PDP e-membership registration exercise and INEC voters registration.
Members of the group went round the 12 electoral wards in Offa local government to educate people and encourage them to participate in the two exercises.
Coordinator of the group, Miss Mufutau Damilola Nafisat, popular called Effizzy Mama, said the move became necessary to improve the level of awareness among women and to mobilize them as prospective voters in the coming elections.
Nafisat expressed gratitude to the national leader of the PDP and immediate past Senate President, Dr Abubakar Bukola Saraki as well as the entire leadership of the party in the State for their commitment towards youth and women inclusion in the political process.
She noted that the leadership of Kwara PDP has continued to demonstrate belief in youth and women across all levels for the growth of the party and the development of the people.
“The last congress at various levels of the party was another attestation to the fact that the Saraki political structure never undermined the roles of women in political activities. It is indeed a strong hope for us as young women in politics,” Nafisat said.
The Saraki Women Movement Coordinator said the group and its members are left with no other choice than to assist the Saraki Political structure and the PDP with activities to ensure landslide victory in forthcoming elections in the State and at the federal level.
She noted that “voter’s card is the weapon to effect positive change in government and a strong tool to reclaim power from the clueless APC government in the state.
“We urge all young ladies, youth and women to stand up and participate in the process to effect the desired changes we clamour. The only party that can guaranteed a more united, viable economy, prosperity and guaranteed the future of the younger generation is the Peoples’ Democratic Party. I call on everyone to get their INEC voters’ cards and endeavour to participate in the ongoing PDP e-membership registration exercise.”
Hajia Oladuni Giwa, who is a grassroots mobilizer also advised youth and women to be more participatory in political activities to effect the changes they yearn for. She urged them to utilize the opportunity provided by the PDP to have a focus and human friendly leaders at the helms of affairs both at the state and federal levels.
Also speaking, Mrs Babatunde Idayat, charged members of the group on community development and peaceful coexistence, saying these two are not negotiable.
Speaking further, Idayat said there is no doubt that the APC has failed woefully in all spheres of governance, ranging from economy, security and job creation, adding that the real meaning of APC is ‘All Promises Cancelled’.
Several other members who spoke on camera affirmed their readiness to work for PDP under the leadership of Dr Abubakar Bukola Saraki. They noted that the time was ripe for aggressive house to house campaign and mobilization, to unseat the APC led administration which has not only failed Kwarans but has also let down its own members.
