Prince is determined to transform Ajase-Ipo – associate
Following the demise of the 15th Olupo of Ajase-Ipo in Irepodun local government area of Kwara State, Oba Sikiru Atanda Woleola II, the race for who succeed him is building up, with no fewer than 13 princes currently eyeing the revered traditional stool. Although there has been no official communication regarding the process to appoint the new monarch.
Oba Woleola died on Friday, 21 February, 2021, at the age of 69, after a brief illness, and has since been buried in accordance with Islamic rites.
As at the time of filing this report, at least, 13 contenders from different ruling houses in Ajase-Ipo have indicated interest to succeed the late Olupo, who spent about 12 years on the throne. One of those who have expressed interest in the stool is a professional engineer, frontline businessman and philanthropist, Mr Lameed Otunola Salami, who many have touted to be next monarch of the town.
Sources within Ajase-Ipo town informed this medium that Engineer Lameed stands a strong chance to emerge the next traditional ruler of the town, as several groups and individuals continue to rally their support for his ambition. They believe he has all it takes – capacity, experience, leadership skills and administrative prowess – to Ajase-Ipo to the next level.
Lameed Otunola Salami is a trained Mechanical Engineer and successful businessman, who runs different companies, with hundreds of workers in his employ. Among his companies are LAMSALAM Farms, Ilorin, Saltoks Nigeria Limited and Three Zeros Investment Limited.
Born on June 14, 1970, Lameed bagged a Higher National Diploma in Mechanical Engineering from the Kwara State Polytechnic, Ilorin in 1995. He had earlier attended Kulende L.S.B.M Primary School, Ilorin, Ajase-Ipo Comprehensive High School, Ajase-Ipo and Offa Grammar School, Offa, for his primary and secondary education.
The prince hails from the Alebiosu ruling house of Ajase-Ipo. He is a worthy son of Ajase-Ipo who has strong commitment and enthusiasm for the growth and development of the town. He is an embodiment of humility and hardwork, which has translated in the success of his various business interests. In 2019, one of his companies, Three Zeros Investment Limited was voted the 2019 Most outstanding Wholesale Partner-Pan Nigeria by Phillip Morris Limited. Also, in 2020, his company was awarded the Most outstanding wholesalers customer of the year 2020, Lagos and south west region by the British America Tobacco, B.A.T.
He is compassionate man and philanthropist, who loves to put smiles of the faces of the people. During the COVID-19 induced lockdown last year, Engineer Lameed brought succour to several families in Lagos and Ajase-Ipo by distributing food items to them, which he said, was to alleviate their hardship.
If appointed the next Olupo of Ajase-Ipo, Lameed is expected to deploy his administrative prowess, leadership skills, wide connection in the business community to attract rapid social and economic changes and also maintain the peace and stability of the town.
An associate of Engineer Lameed who does not want his name in print, said the intention of the prince is to transform Ajase-Ipo by working with the State government and exploring his rich contact with actors in the economy and business community to attract the much needed to the town. He explained that the prince was not always happy with the current pace of development in the town and is determined to change the face of Ajase-Ipo.
