Kwara Accountability and Integrity Forum

Our attention has been drawn to yet another mind bulging revelation of secret sales of houses and landed properties belonging to Ilorin West, Ilorin East and Ilorin South local government councils by the Mallam Abdulrahman Abdulrazaq Administration.

The houses which are the official quarters usually used for administrative purpose and hosting meetings by the three local government councils were seen been demolished over the week by some men working on the directives of the Governor who according to report had approved the selling off of the Council Quarters to one of his relative who planned to erect a shopping mall.

As a civil society group which believes government should be run in a transparent manner for the interest of all, we condemn this shady dealings in its entirety and call for immediate reversal of such transactions which did not consider the community interest that may be in jeopardy.

We also caution Abdulrazaq’s family members to stop using the number one office presently being occupied by their brother as an advantage to oil their personal agenda at the detriment of the generality of the people of Kwara state.

Our organisation is of the believe that the secret sales and purported taken over of councils official quarters is not only unlawful but also signaled dangerous trend for Kwara state if allowed to fly unchallenged.

We therefore call on relevant government agencies to launch an investigation into this corrupt tendency and anyone found culpable be made to face full wrath of the law.

Aside from it been an infringement of the law of the land, giving out government properties to family members of the Governor without following due process is nepotistic and impunity taken too far.

This is a sad turn of events for Kwara, and as a group, we found it unacceptable for family of those in government who are not statutorily part of decision making organ of the state to be taking advantage of their relatives to be feasting on the state’s common patrimony with impunity.

Beyond this official statement, our organization is putting its resources together to get more fact on this shady deal, in order to approach court of competent jurisdiction to challenge this government’s recklessness and insensitive action.
