Kwara Dep. Gov, wife test positive for COVID-19 days after hosting birthday party in Ilorin
…devt. creates fear among birthday party attendees
The Deputy Governor of Kwara State, Kayode Alabi and his wife Abieyuwa have tested positive for COVID-19.
This is coming days after Alabi hosted a party to celebrate his 57th birthday in Ilorin, raising fears in the minds of all those who attended the party.
A statement by the spokesperson of the Kwara State Technical Committee on COVID-19, Rafiu Ajakaye, said the deputy governor and his wife submitted themselves for COVID-19 test on Monday after showing slight symptoms of the virus.
“The results of their test are positive. The second couple are very stable and in high spirit, and are now undergoing standard management protocols supervised by the government’s medical team,” the statement added.
Alabi and his wife testing positive for Coronavirus means their aides and those who might have come in contact with including scores of people who attended the birthday party stand risk of contracting the virus.
This also calls to question the integrity of the deputy governor who is also the Chairman of the State COVID-19 Taskforce. Social gatherings such as birthday had been prohibited by the State Government to curb the spread of the deadly disease.
But one is left to wonder why the Chairman of the Covid-19 Taskforce would host a birthday party in flagrant disregard to the rules set by them (the government). Isn’t this an abuse of office? Was the deputy governor showing that he is above the law ? Will this development not lead to community transmission of the virus? And will the State government be courageous enough to prosecute Mr Alabi for violating its prohibition?
