Must Read: Reason why Gov AbdulRazaq extended the suspension of LG Chairpersons

Fresh facts have emerged as to why the Kwara State Governor, Abdulrahman Abdulrazaq extended the suspension of the 16 local government chairmen in the State, despite their recent defection to the ruling All Progressives Congress, APC.

It was learnt that the suspended LG chairmen had agreed to join the APC to canvass support for Governor Abdulrazaq on the condition that their ongoing corruption case would be dropped and they be returned to their respective offices.

Government House sources who revealed this to this medium, further said that was the agreement the suspended council bosses had with the Governor weeks before they officially defected to the APC.

One of the sources however dislcosed that members of the State House of Assembly were not in support of the reinstatement of the suspended LG chairmen because they (the lawmakers) have been overseeing the collection of Internally Generated Revenue (IGR) of all the LGs and also getting their share of the funds.

The source further said the lawmakers knew that returning the affected chairmen to office would put a stop to their illegal action and abuse of power, adding that this was why the House members opposed the reinstatement of the suspended LG chairmen.

It was gathered that the legislators went further to threaten that should the chairmen be returned to office, they would join forces with aggrieved camp of the party to fight Governor Abdulrazaq.

According to the source, this is one of the reasons the lawmakers recently went on an oversight function and exposed the fraud perpetuated by the governor in the award of contract for renovation of schools in the State. He said the action of the lawmakers was deliberate and aimed at sending a strong message to Governor Abdulrazaq.

The source said the Governor had no option than to succumb to the wishes of the lawmakers, and this was why he extended the suspension of the LG chairmen.
