Re: Group Defends Kwara Gov over Appointment of Akanbi as KWASU Vice Chancellor

29th April 2020

Our attention has been drawn to a more nepotistic and ethnically biased imputation credited to one faceless and non existent group, Gambari Progressive Society , which is clandestinely being used by some people close to Governor Abdulrahaman Abdulrazaq where they were applauding the illogical, unjust and controversial appointment of Professor Muhammed Akanbi as Vice Chancellor of the state owned University located in Malete, and at the same time, casting aspersion against respected people of kwara North and South who unanimously voiced out against arbitrary decision of the state government in the said appointment.

These people ,out of their desperate quest to defend the obvious nepotism and crass impunity demonstrated by the Governor, hid under a faceless group to make series of untrue and inciting claims in the articles sponsored to on pages of Thisday Newspaper edition of 27th April; we challenge this people under the masquerade to a physical radio debate if they are bold enough to come out of their cowardice since by their actions , they have already stepped on the tiger’s tail and be ready for its bite.

Ordinarily, we wouldn’t have wasted our time responding to these scaredy pants but we found it imperative to correct their balderdash because of the unsuspecting friends of Kwara north and members of the general public who may be misled by their fallacious rethorics.

You will all recall the controversies and condemnation that greeted the appointment of another Kwara Central man, Professor Muhammad Akanbi by Kwara state government as substantive Vice Chancellor of KWASU to succeed Professor Abdulrasheed Na’Allah, who is also from Kwara Central Senatorial District and had just completed his two term tenure of 10 years as the pioneer Vice Chancellor of the state owned institution .

Also recall that the then acting Vice Chancellor, Professor Sakah Mahmud who is from the Kwara North Senatorial District was adjudged to be the best amongst the three men that were interviewed by the University board for this position of which Professor Muhammed Akanbi was the least performed according to the incontestable test results approved by the University Council .

What prompted the sudden manipulation of test results by the University Visitor which is the state governor to favour Professor Akanbi remains unclear to Kwarans but our position remains that the replacement of Professor Na’Allah from Kwara Central with Akanbi, another Kwara Central man is a total violation of the principles of equity, fairness and justice in a state where three Senatorial Districts exist without any particular district deficient of qualified people.
As a responsible group from Kwara north axis , we see the latest prank by this faceless group as the height of insensitivity, wickedness and symbolic hatred for kwara north people who gave Governor Abdulrahaman Abdulrazaq over 70% of votes for him and his party to emerge as the Executive Governor of Kwara State, the position he is using to the disadvantage of the North today.

It should be noted that Kwara North region does not hold any grudge or malice against any other region including the Kwara Central but we feel the appointment made by state government in KWASU did not reflect the regard and sensitivity to the diversity and unity of Kwara State and this is capable of breeding inter ethnic apprehension within the State .

In conclusion, we would like to warn this faceless group and their sponsors, to desist from promoting injustice and government ineptitude, callousness and ethnocentrism. He whose head is used in breaking coconut, does not partake in the eating.
Kwara North statesmanship and calmness in the face of this massive cheating and marginalization should not be mistaken for cowardice.

Thanks and God bless
