Alleged Fraud : House Owner Not ‘Olalekan Alabi PAPOL’ , Says EFCC

Anti –graft body, the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC,  Ilorin Zonal Office secured a court order on Wednesday, 22nd of January 2020  backing the forfeiture of  three blocks of two bedroom flats situated at Gaa Ajegunle village,  Egbejila Road, Ilorin,  the Kwara state capital. 

Justice Sikiru Oyinloye of  the Kwara state High Court gave the order of the final forfeiture of the property belonging to one Mr. Olalekan Alabi after hearing the unchallenged application earlier brought by the EFCC. 

The EFCC had on the 18th of November 2019 approached the Court seeking the final forfeiture of the said property and one Honda Accord Car to the Federal Government on the grounds that it was acquired through  proceeds of unlawful activity. 

‘ My Lord,  our motion on the 18th day of November 2019, prayed your Lordship to grant the order of final forfeiture of the property lying and situated at Gaa Ajegunle village,  Egbejila Road,  Ilorin,  which was found and recovered by the Commission from the respondent .

 We have complied with the  order of your Lordship by publishing the interim order in the Nation Newspaper,  the respondent was issued with the hearing notice,  he was duly notified,  I urge your Lordship to grant our prayers and order the final forfeiture of the said property’  Counsel to the EFCC,  Mr A.A Adebayo told Justice Oyinloye on Wednesday.

Justice Oyinlolye later granted the order sequel to  the submission by the EFCC Lawyer.

‘ I have seen the order of this honourable Court published in the Nation Newspaper,  this Court is of the opinion that the respondent was duly informed but decided not to challenge the application.

This Honourable Court hereby grants  the request of the EFCC and  the said property and the car are hereby forfeited to the Federal Government’ he said.

Meanwhile, the  development recorded at the Kwara state High Court , Ilorin on Wednesday got a former  state government functionary, Alhaji Olalekan Alabi Yusuf placed in spotlight.   It was widely promoted on social media that the Alabi in question was  Ex-Governor Abdulfatah Ahmed’s former Personal Assistant on Political Affairs, Olalekan Alabi Yusuf better known as ‘PAPOL’.

While speaking on Thursday, January 23, 2020, the Head of Media and Publicity, Ilorin Zonal office of the EFCC , Mr. Gbenga Adewoye clarified that the Olalekan Alabi  who  lost his property to the Federal Government was not the  former governor’s aide  but only his namesake.

  ‘It has nothing to do with the former governor’s aide, it is about a different person entirely. I’m sure he is just his namesake   and they may not even have ever met before’ he said.  

Investigation further revealed that the said Olalekan Alabi had dealings  with an international organization that focuses on health matters-
