The Kwara basketball association has concluded plans to successfully stage the inaugural edition of the 3×3 basketball tournament from Thursday to Friday, the association’s chairman, Joseph Adeyemo, said on Monday.
Adeyemo, while briefing newsmen in Ilorin, said the association’s technical committee has put everything in place for the event billed for the Kwara Sports Stadium in Ilorin.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the tournament is part of sports activities lined up to mark the first 100 days in office of the state governor, Abdulrahman Abdulrazaq.
“The tournament will also be an avenue to select and prepare players to represent Kwara at the forthcoming 5th National Youth Games (NYG) set to hold in September at the University of Ilorin,’’ the state basketball association chairman said.
He disclosed that seven male and four female teams have been picked across the state to participate in the tournament which will also help teach the young ones about the event.
“We need to keep the young ones updated on the latest rules and guidelines in the game, especially this aspect of the basketball sport.’’
Adeyemo added that prizes and medals would be awarded to winners in both categories of the competition.
NAN reports that the event will see selected boys and girls below the age of 15 representing schools and teams at the competition billed for the stadium’s Indoor Sports Hall.(NAN)
